How to: Run a general installation.
Solution:
Insert the installation media and select 'Run...' from the Windows 'Start' menu. Type SETUP.EXE.
1) Insert the installation CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.
NOTE: If installing Office Professional, the installation CD-ROM is CD 1.
2) Click the 'Start' button to display the Windows 'Start' menu.
3) Select 'Run...'.
4) Run Setup
a) Type the CD-ROM drive location and SETUP.EXE in the 'Open' text box.
NOTE: The CD-ROM drive is usually the 'D' drive.
EXAMPLE: D:\SETUP.EXE
b) Click 'OK'.
c) Click 'Continue'. (The Name and Organization Information dialog box appears.)
d) Type the user's name in the 'Name' text box.
e) Type the organization's name in the 'Organization' text box.
f) Click 'OK'. (The Confirm Name and Organization dialog box appears.)
g) Do one of the following:
1] If the information in the Confirmation dialog box is CORRECT, click 'OK'.
2] If the information in the Confirmation dialog box is NOT CORRECT:
a] Click 'Change'. (The Name and Organization Information dialog box appears.)
b] Re-enter the user's name in the 'Name' text box.
c] Re-enter the Organization name in the 'Organization' text box.
d] Click 'OK'.
h) Type the 10-digit CD key in the 'CD Key' text box.
NOTE: The CD key is located on the back of the CD case on an orange sticker.
i) Click 'OK'. (The Product ID number appears in the Product ID text box.)
j) Copy the Product ID number to a separate piece of paper and store the number in a safe place.
k) Click 'OK'. (In the Folder group, the location where the Office files will be stored is displayed.)
l) Decide where the Office files are to be stored and do one of the following:
1] If the folder location IS CORRECT, click 'OK'.
2] If the folder location is NOT CORRECT:
a] Click 'Change Folder'. (The Change folder dialog box appears.)
b] Select the correct folder location.
c] Click 'OK'.
m) Decide what type of installation is desired and do one of the following:
1] For a Typical installation, click the 'Typical' installation button.
a] Do one of the following when the Data Map dialog box appears
1} Click 'Yes' to install the data map.
2} Click 'No' to not install the data map.
b] When the 'Restart Windows' dialog box appears, click 'Restart Windows'.
2] For a Compact installation, click the 'Compact' installation button.
a] Decide on the applications to be installed, and do one of the following:
1} Select the check boxes beside the desired applications.
2} Click 'Select All' to install all of the Office applications.
NOTE: If an INCORRECT application is selected, clear the appropriate check boxes.
3} Click 'Continue'. (As Office installs, the percent of installation complete is displayed. When installation is complete the Restart Windows dialog box appears.)
3] For a Custom installation click 'Custom' installation.
a] Decide on the applications to be installed and do one of the following:
1} Select the check boxes beside the desired applications.
2} Click 'Select All' to install all of the Office applications.
NOTE: If an INCORRECT application is selected, clear the appropriate check boxes.
3} Click 'Continue'. (As Office installs, the percent of installation complete is displayed. When installation is complete the Restart Windows dialog box appears.)
4] For a 'Run from CD-ROM installation, click the 'Run from CD-ROM' installation button.
a] Decide on the applications to be installed and do one of the following:
1} Select the check boxes beside the desired applications.
2} Click 'Select All' to install all of the Office applications.
NOTE: If an INCORRECT application is selected, clear the appropriate check boxes.
3} Click 'Continue'. (As Office installs, the percent of installation complete is displayed. When installation is complete the Restart Windows dialog box appears.)
n) Click 'Restart Windows'. (The computer reboots and setup is complete.)
